Virginia McFerran is the Chief Information Officer and Department Head at The Salk Institute. As CIO, responsible for information technology, libraries and medical imaging, she aims to maximize the efficacy of technology in basic research efforts. In the course of advancing research capacities and discoveries, the Salk has seeded several entrepreneurial success stories. Prior to joining the Salk, Mrs. McFerran held positions at Microsoft Corporation, the University of Washington School of Public Health, and The Fielding Institute. Mrs. McFerran serves on the boards of two technology companies and holds a master's degree in administration.
