TMP Program and Certificate Flyer (download)
The undergraduate curriculum in TMP is designed to complement the degree-granting programs at UCSB with an additional program of study for students targeting careers in technology-based companies and industries. The courses are open to all majors. Through coursework and extracurricular outreach activities, TMP students will be introduced to an exceptional group of local, regional and national leaders in technology management and entrepreneurship.
The Technology Entrepreneurship Professional Certificate program provides students a solid foundation in business fundamentals and entrepreneurship as it applies to new technologies and technology-oriented companies. This certificate serves as an official recognition that the student has a solid grounding in fundamental business strategies and models, opportunity recognition and new-venture creation, entrepreneurial marketing and finance, foundations of team building, organization behavior and talent management. The certificate demonstrates to prospective or current employers an evidence of recent professional-level training in these fields.
Certificate prerequisites:
Upper division standing
Writing 2, 2E, 2LK, or equivalent, with a minimum grade of B-
Writing 50, 50E, WRIT 105, WRIT 107, WRIT 109 or ENGL 10, or equivalent,
with a minimum grade of B-
Economics 1 or 3A, or equivalent, with a minimum grade of B- (New Venture Finance course only)
TEC Requirements
In order to receive certificate credit for the courses taken, students must earn a B average or better in the required courses, with no grades for any courses below a C letter grade. The program may be completed in as short as three (3) quarters; however, it may be more realistic to spread the coursework over two (2) academic years.

The Technology Entrepreneurship Certificate program consist of 16 required units resulting in 160 hours of instruction. The required courses are a combination of UCSB courses and UC Extension courses.
Required courses offered through UCSB:
TMP 111 (formerly ENGR 111) Opportunities and Perspectives in Technology, Business, and Society, 2 units
TMP 120 (formerly ENGR 120) Business Strategy & Leadership Skills, 4 units
TMP 122 (formerly ENGR 122) Entrepreneurship, 4 units
Required courses offered through Extension
ENGR X130A (formerly ENGR 191A) Entrepreneurial Marketing, 2 units
ENGR X130B (formerly ENGR 191B) New Venture Finance, 2 units
ENGR X130C (new) Entrepreneurial Leadership of Teams & Talent, 2 units
Course Credit
Courses offered for the certificate are a combination of approved UC Santa Barbara undergraduate courses in Engineering Sciences and approved UCSB Extension courses (X100 series). Coursework and grades will be reported on two separate and independent transcripts. One from UC Santa Barbara and another one from UCSB Extension.
Extension Course Transfer Credit
UC Santa Barbara students must file a petition with their home UC Santa Barbara College prior to enrollment in any Extension course.

Students in the Technology Entrepreneurship Certificate Program enroll through UC Santa Barbara Extension.

$150 Certificate candidacy fee
Course fee: $250 per unit for Extension courses only
