Nitride Solutions Team: Troy Baker and David Pricco
A two-person team from UCSB won top honors at the 5th annual Spirit of
Entrepreneurship and Enterprise Development (SEED) National Collegiate
Forum held this weekend at the Reagan Ranch Center in downtown Santa
Barbara.
The event attracted 10 student teams from around the country.
Judges from a variety of investment and venture capital firms gave the
Best Emerging Venture Investment Opportunity award to Nitride Solutions,
a product developed by UCSB student-entrepreneurs. The product is used
for fabrication of ultraviolet LEDs. Potential end users are companies
needing to sterilize medical devices or doing biological detection. The
UCSB team members are Troy Baker, who is doing postdoctoral work in
materials engineering, and David Pricco, who is finishing an
undergraduate degree in business economics. Their faculty adviser is
Gary Hansen, director of UCSB's technology management program. Mr. Baker
said one of the screeners at the event had already made a direct
referral for Nitride to an investment group that specializes in funding
startup companies. Please click here to view the rest of the story on the Santa Barbara News-Press website.
